In Vaasa, the drive for innovation in energy technology is grounded in a practical and a collaborative approach. This coastal region has steadily built a reputation as a hub for sustainable energy technology solutions, supported by a robust network of companies, research institutions, and dedicated development organisations. Three organisations – Technology Centre Merinova, Vaasa Facilita, and Vaasa Region Development Company VASEK – are driving these efforts and working alongside numerous partners to create a thriving ecosystem for energy innovation in Vaasa.

This year’s EnergyWeek strengthened the event’s reputation as a key meeting place for energy experts at the local, national, and international levels. EnergyWeek 2025 broke records with more organizers, more participants, more speakers, more matchmaking meetings, and more international guests than ever before.

As the demand for skilled labour increases, the Vaasa Region Development Company (VASEK) is guiding local businesses of all sizes, from solo entrepreneurs and start-ups to global enterprises.

The Port of Vaasa Group and Vattenfall have on 18 March 2025 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The purpose is to investigate collaborative efforts to develop suitable infrastructural and logistical conditions for offshore wind projects in the Gulf of Bothnia, particularly for the industrial scale offshore wind farm in Korsnäs.

The new strategy of the EnergyVaasa cluster highlights the cluster’s position as a global leader in the clean transition. A strong focus is placed on the cluster companies' capacity for renewal, the development of internationally competitive SMEs, and a thriving start-up culture.

This year’s EnergyWeek will take place from March 17–20, featuring both familiar themes and new additions to the program. The event continues to grow, offering more expert seminars and involving more key players in creating relevant content for thousands of participants. Visitor registration opened in mid-January and has seen a high number of sign-ups from the start.

The world is changing and our efforts to promote diversity, equality and equity is more important than ever. Research shows that diverse workplaces are more creative, innovative and productive - especially if the members of the management team and board are also from different genders and backgrounds.

Green Skills Vaasa is a Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) newly established in the Vaasa region. It brings together the region’s vocational institutes and universities and acts as a link between them and the region’s industry and stakeholders, enabling their close cooperation. The Centre’s purpose is to support green know-how and innovation in the region, strengthening Vaasa’s position at the forefront of sustainable development and smart specialisation.

A lift renovation will be carried out at our property, Alatori 1A, from 3 March to 17 April. During this time, our office on the third floor will be accessed by stairs only.

The short answer: not in any way. The employer and business services provided by the state TE offices were transitioned to the municipal Employment Services at the beginning of this year, but from the customer's perspective, the application process for start-up grants remains the same.
