The Maritime Energy Transition stage II project (MAREN II) builds on the knowledge and collaborations gained from MAREN I and sets out to convert those result in deliverables and strategic procedures. These will be used to steer the Nordic region to a shared and collaborative transition towards a sustainable Maritime energy, e.g., sustainable fuels, energy efficiency and integrated energy systems.

The project will focus on creating a Nordic maritime energy program, a joint Nordic strategy and lastly, a digital platform for cross-industrial open innovation and collaboration in the region. The purpose of these actions is threefold, Firstly, to coordinate Nordic innovation initiatives in the field of maritime energy, secondly to showcase the Nordic position at a European level in relevant networks and program to influence the research agenda. And thirdly, to create a structure for project generation and collaboration that will go beyond the termination of the project. In addition, an EU application will be formulated based on the findings of the strategy.

The overall goal for this project is to foster a more coordinated and rapid maritime energy transition in the Nordic region by creating a common structure for cross-country project building and knowledge strongholds throughout the region. This will strengthen the Nordic position at a global scale as a leading region in the area of sustainable maritime energy.

This project will be built on the Nordic cooperation that was initiated in MAREN linking four clusters together with more than 500 collective member companies. As being described, the purpose of this succeeding project is to create concrete tools on how to organise and execute the transition to a sustainable maritime industry.

Based on the knowledge gained in MAREN the targeted groups in this project is a range of key players in the maritime industry, including ship owners, governmental institutions, harbours, yards, technology suppliers, utility companies and R&D institutions.
